Nutrition

We grow many varieties of fruits, herbs, and vegetables on the 12 acre Clubhouse Farm.  The children are involved in planting, growing, weeding and harvesting – learning about where fresh food comes from and how they can be a part of growing it. Research shows that being a part of growing their own produce has a positive impact on children’s social development, confidence and food awareness, along with a noticeable influence on the family’s general healthy food consumption.  We create locally-sourced, farm fresh snacks and meals.  The Clubhouse Nutrition Program uses this locally grown food in providing snacks and meals at each of our Clubhouse locations.
In 2007, The Clubhouse received funding from the “Success by 6” initiative and set up a nutritional program to encourage healthy eating for all children.  In our beautiful, easy to clean and functional commercial kitchen, we are able to bake fresh cookies and muffins for our snacks and serve hot meals for our Early Years programs.  Our school age children are welcome to help with baking and cooking throughout the year, and the younger ones are often eager to test their results at snack time.  Meals are nutritionally balanced, and fruit and veggies are always available as a side dish.
Fresh produce is delivered weekly, and menus based on Canada’s Food Guide change seasonally. Families can find weekly menus posted on our Family Communication Boards, which are updated daily if there are any changes.
We are nut-aware and are able to provide alternatives for allergies and dietary restrictions.  In an effort to provide an allergy-safe environment, and to minimize the risk of cross contamination, we do not permit food from home.  The Clubhouse is committed to the fundamental principle of providing and maintaining a healthy environment for all children and staff.
Vegetarian, halal and other nutritional requirements are accommodated and every family will have the opportunity to discuss this at our in-take meetings.
